Just because you can farm one location and get a lot of X skin staff doesn't make it common. I did the Minister Cho's Estate zmish in HM a few days ago on most of my characters, with 3 heroes in the party each time. I got one gold Bo Staff, two purples and far too many blues and whites. If I farmed that mission/area I'm sure I could get several in one day. That doesn't make Bo Staves common, however. Rarity is based off of how many exist and/or drop in the entire GW population. Just because a few of us could potentially farm Troll cave or Shing Jea HM all day doesn't make gold Raven and Bo staves common; just farmable.

Tru... My point is that many people farmed southern shiver for years. The existence of perfect ravens is evident as they are around. The likely hood that hundreds upon thousands of golds that dropped had meh stats and were merched is, in my opinion, quite high. I know I personally have seen far too many to count from when I used to farm trolls all day. I also know that a large amount of people farmed these areas, so it wasn't just a small population, it was a rather large one. Thus, I don't consider it insanely rare... No one does much in the southern shivers anymore unfortunately. Maybe if we had community wide nostalgia days and got together in teams of 8 and went around certain areas just indiscriminately killing shit for an hour or two a day... I'm saying have days devoted to farming areas throughout the week, and get huge numbers from guru to participate. Maybe some of the rarer staves/weapons would start dropping. Just an idle thought as I do this with my 4 accounts a lot and have been getting some funny drops as of late.

Alot of people did farm trolls and they did drop alot, but that was 4 years ago.
And I never claimed them to be incredibly rare, just rare. If you ask me you'll end up with more gold zodiac staves after a day of urgoz and deep than raven after a day of troll farming. Adding to that the fact that people still do deep and urgoz.

It wasn't 4 years ago! Don't ruin my nostalgia. It was only yesterday....
But srs.
I still don't think of them as rare.. maybe uncommon but, meh. If it was a day of southern shiver farming with 8/8 vs deep/urgoz full team farming... Just drops. I agree more zodiacs... the team size is also larger though so yea.
And true, people still do deep and urgoz, not so much with trolls since that stupid update with the drop scaling crap.

Deep is easy doable with 7H. Im doing it regularly because i love it - but drops are not worth of my time
In few years i never get 20/20 zodiac staff.

Bo Staffs
As far as what we're seeing "a lot" of new supply come to market lately, I think you might rate Bo Staffs as a little less rare. I'm told Cho farming is extremely popular with many players and quite well documented on PvX; a friend of mine does a lot of it and lets me ID all his golds for the title points. We see a lot of gold Bo Staffs (usually with stats that make them nearly merchfood, sure, but gold Bo Staffs nonetheless.) From what I've heard, the friend in question seems to have unusually good luck with gold drops there, but I think it's safe to say he does enough of it to have a pretty good sample of his own loot. Rough guess would be that he's been passing me about 10-12 unid gold items from Cho's per day, on the days he's not doing something else with his GW time. This has been going on since I got back to GW from an extended break last Halloween. There's usually at least one gold Bo Staff in every two batches, and it's not particularly rare to see more than that.
Likely relevant and of interest to this discussion, we do seem to see a lot of gold Bo Staffs without a max base. Quite a few of them have 19HSR and/or 11-21 damage instead of max, although they're all r9 or higher. Despite that tendency, I'm not sure it's reasonable to keep considering Bos in the higher rarity rankings with all the people farming there these days.

But you agree that Southern Shiv farming is rather unpopular these days? So would it be a fair possibility that the bulk of the "nice" Ravens were from those old days and they're more likely to now be resting on inactive accounts, effectively removed from the current market? It certainly doesn't seem like we see many new Raven Staffs come up for sale these days.

omg /signed!!! That sounds like fun ... and utter chaos, too!
My Cho farming buddy recently took a break to caravan-vanquish some areas in Ascalon with his precious slav .. er, heroes. In the batch of golds to ID from his adventures that day, there was an r12 20/10 inherent Obsidian Earth Staff. It's the first "nice" modded inherent Orrish I've ever held, and one of the few anything-modded inherent versions I remember seeing drop at all - I was all giddy about it. He let me keep it. He thinks I'm a big dork, but he thought that already anyway. So now I have a snazzy new res-shrine staff to console me.

o.O !!! Dude. Nice staff. oh nice staff. I got an r11 core fire staff 20/20 from Hell's Precipice chest runs. 80 lockpicks on HM and I didn't get 1 mag... Depressing stats imo. With regards to the farming thing, I think it would be really cool to have a weekly event on guru. Where a huge group of people goes out to a given territory in Tyria/Cantha and just farms. NM/HM doesn't matter to me. Just going out and killing everything. In effect... Huge team vanquishes of odd areas. Areas around ToA in NM and HM. RoF island chain. Southern Shiver. Ascalon. End game cantha. The Deep/Urgoz. Jade Sea. Echovald Forest.
I suspect if we had a few dozen people doing this we'd at least see a couple cool drops. Some 20/20 staves for sure, maybe some perfect shields. But I'm dreaming... Time to wake up. *SLAP*

I can't speak for others, but it sounds like the sort of thing I'd be interested to at least try ... if I saw a place telling me when/where and how to sign up ... the sort of place someone motivated would have to take on the role of lead organizer. *cough*
